you were made for this.
I watched “House of David” on Amazon Prime recently, and I can’t stop thinking about something David says as he’s convincing King Saul that he will fight and defeat Goliath.
When the king doesn’t think David stands a chance against Goliath, David responds by saying that he has killed a lion and a bear while tending to his father’s sheep, and that the same God who rescued him from those animals will also rescue him from this giant.
“That monster is a man of war,” King Saul says while shaking his head. “He was made for this.”
Those words were meant to mark defeat, but David responds so quickly that he almost interrupts the king.
“I was made for this,” he says.
This particular exchange isn’t in scripture, but it emphasizes the point. To hear it phrased like that, delivered with such confidence and intensity, caught my attention. It’s rare to see people speak with such conviction and boldness like that, but I’m so drawn to it.
David wasn’t made literally to kill lions and bears and giants. He was made to trust God. Made to be a conqueror. Made to overcome. So were all the Israelites, but David is the one who believes it and declares it and acts on it.
I think it’s easy to understand and apply this to the big things we’re facing, but I think it applies to your average Thursday too. When you’re frustrated with your kids, when someone cuts you off in traffic, when someone else gets the promotion at work, when there is a voice telling you that you don’t have what it takes.
Sometimes you don’t need God to move a mountain. Sometimes you just need Him to give you the strength to do what’s in front of you today with peace, patience, kindness, joy, etc.
He has all of those things for you, and more. But you need to believe and declare, I was made for this.
You were made to carry His love. His greatness. Go act like it.
The power of God is in you, even on a Thursday.
