God is up to something.

The phrase keeps popping up for me that God is “up to something.”

There are two different songs released in the last year (by One House & Upperroom and Red Rocks Worship & Kory Miller) with that exact title, and they’re both on my current playlist. God is up to something!

Weeks ago, when I read the book of Esther again, the word annihilate popped out to me. Who uses that word anymore? But there it was: the Jews were facing annihilation.

If you break it down, the word annihilate = to + nothing.

The people of God were about to be brought to nothing.

The contrast between what’s nothing and what’s something always gets me. And I noticed that what Mordecai, Esther’s cousin, basically says to her is that maybe God is up to something, making you queen at a time like this.

Some people say or even plan to bring the Jews to nothing… but what if God is up to something?

Weeks ago, I wrote that Mordecai was noticing the fingerprints of God — since God is not actually mentioned in the story at all, but His hand is noticeable.

In my own life, I notice what seem like fingerprints of God. There are things I point to and think, I don’t quite know what this stacks up to be, but I think it’s something.

The enemy is always trying to tell me I’m wrong, that it’s nothing — that it will all come down to nothing.

But God is always up to something.

The process might not look the way you thought it would. What He’s asking of you might be riskier than you appreciate. The outcome might be different from what you imagined.

But He’s here, in this day, moving on your behalf. Even if you can’t see it yet, whatever it might look like right now, God is up to something.

The power of God is in you, even on a Thursday.
